The last nine pandemic months have felt like a long repetition of the Serenity Prayer: “God, grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change, the courage to change the things I can, and the wisdom to know the difference.”
The list of things I can’t change grows ever longer, but I still believe that little acts of faithfulness make a difference. Luke 16:10 tells us that, “He that is faithful in that which is least is faithful also in much: and he that is unjust in the least is unjust also in much.”
So I continue to read the Bible. I continue to invest in my marriage. I continue educating my children, in everything from proper manners to poetry to the proper use of toilets, believing that these small acts of faithfulness might just be the most important after all.
